I watched the latest version of the Incredible Hulk the other night.  Only because it's part of the Iron Man/Avengers series.

Everyone knows that I love comic books.  I love movies based on comic books.

The X-men, Spiderman, Batman, Iron Man; all great movies. ( I didn't think the Fantastic 4 lived up to the others. )

But I've never been a fan of the Hulk.

Sure, I watched the tv show starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno.  Who didn't?  It was the seventies; we didn't have a choice.
But the Hulk is a lame 'super hero'.  Bruce Banner is interesting because he's an intelligent, grown up with issues.  the Hulk?  A giant moron with super strength and rage issues.

Yawn.

But they just keep making the movie.

The version starring Eric Bana only came out a few years ago.  It tanked, so naturally they made it again, with Ed Norton.  Now, Ed Norton is ten times the actor Eric Bana is.  I don't understand screen presence, no one does.  But sometimes, a guy who looks like Norton is more fun to watch than a guy who looks like Bana.  Maybe it's a chick thing; we just get bored with flat good looks really fast.  I've seen Bana in a few movies and he's a snore.  No heat at all.  I'll buy that in real life he's charming and hot. How does that help me? It doesn't translate to the screen.  In fact, he detracts from the screen.

Which is also what a CGI Hulk does.

the CGI in this movie is lame, by the way.

I liked the movie okay while Ed Norton was Bruce Banner but I was bored to death whenever the cartoons started fighting and I like cartoons.

But I don't like the Hulk.

I also like Tim Roth, who played a bad guy.  I dislike William Hurt, who also played a bad guy.  He's his own generation's Eric Bana.  Bana is at least better looking than William Hurt ever was, for the ten seconds it takes to realize how boring he is, but in the end, they're both big fat, charismatic zeroes.  I shouldn't say 'fat', since even as big as a house, Marlon Brando could turn on the charm.

On the other hand, Tony Stark made a cameo at the end of the movie.  RDjr has charisma to BURN.

Robert Downey jr is his generation's Peter O'Toole.
