Early October

There's no two ways about it, early October is the prettiest time of the year around here.

Today it was 71 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, which was so blue it looked fake and just enough of a breeze to temp a few sailors out on their boats.  The lake was cerulean right out of the tube.  The trees are at their peak of color; some of them are so orange or red that they look like they're lit from within.

You might think that it couldn't get any prettier than today and for all practical purposes, you'd be right.  But on this day in 1994, it was even more beautiful.  It was like today, but the trees were brighter and the atmosphere had that crystalline quality it sometimes gets so that the air itself glitters.  I remember October 6, 1994 because I made a mental note while driving around Lake Harriet that day; "This is it; the most beautiful day that the world has ever seen!"

I'm an artist.  I notice these things.

It'll probably turn out it was October 4, 1996 but I'm pretty sure I'd remember if it had been my sister's birthday.  Then again, maybe not.

Someday, I hope to see a day that gorgeous again but I know I'll never see one prettier.

Katie, MJ and the babies and I walked around the lake.  Bananas kept pointing at trees and saying "There's a pretty tree!"

MJ is taking her to the University tomorrow to participate in a study on language skills in two year olds.  Either Banana won't make a peep the whole time or she'll sing the entire sound track to Wicked.  it's a toss up.

The Twins are taking on the Yankees tonight at Target Field.  Harmon is in the house as well as Jay and Zack.

Go Twins!!
