The gorgeous weather continues through this October. It's that time of the year where everything is so pretty I'm always amazed that I don't get in a fender bender.
Last Saturday was warm and sunny and Jay and I picked up the lovely Mr. Curry and we all went down to Rochester to visit our friends, Dick and Jan. Dick has been working in R. for a few years now and last year he sold his house in Edina and moved down there. This last spring, he and Jan got married. They spent the summer fixing up their town house and Saturday had their annual Holiday party.
I think kicking off the Holidays in mid October is a great idea. We're already inundated with Halloween candy, some stores are already gearing up for Christmas and if we wait another month, the drive south could get pretty iffy, if not down right notty.
The drive was nice; I did needlepoint and ignored the incredibly boring conversation about people I don't know taking place in the front seat.
The party was a lot of fun. Dick and Jan's home is enormous; a big kitchen, living room with fireplace and sunroom with sliding doors to a nifty patio. There's a formal dining room and a master suite behind the living room. On the other side of the kitchen is another full bath and the laundry room is on the main floor. Downstairs is a large family room, and two more bedrooms, one of which Jan is using as an office. There's also a work room down there, where Jan has several of her paintings and some easels set up.
They've painted the house in lots of very pretty, soft colors. The sunroom and dining room are in bolder tones but nothing oppressive or garish. Jan's an artist; she knows color. Of course, for all I know, Dick chose the colors. Whoever did, they work.
It was warm enough to spend a good chunk of the party out on the patio.
We had a great time but the best part was just seeing D&J so happy, as they should be.
Sunday I worked most of the day, since I'd taken all of Saturday off and my boss HATES when I do that. Bitch.
Mr. Curry brought food over and Jay cooked a porketta and the Vikings were watched. Boo. So glad I don't care about the Vikings anymore.
I've been watching season 3 of Mad Men. Wow. The episode where the snooty brit gets his foot mown off by a secretary horrified yet amused me.
Yesterday, the volleyball team played one of their most hated rivals; Washburn.
The two schools are less than two miles apart so historically they've always hated each other, of course. Since my kids have been in school, South has been the biggest rival, I think it's because they're both academic magnet schools. Either way, South and Washburn are always the most fun of all to beat and as of right now, all our volleyball teams have swept all of theirs in both (well, all four) matchups this year. SW has a very strong Volleyball program.
Josie is counting the days till the season ends. It's too bad she's not loving it as much as before because she's really getting good. She's a front row player and her hits have become very precise and deadly. Her timing is excellent. If she could jump like her mom could thirty five years ago, she'd be unstoppable at the net. Her mom had no timing, however and was a terrible volleyball player. Girl had springs is all.
Also this weekend, Ty and Megan went up to South Dakota for the pheasant hunting opener. The weather was gorgeous and they had a great time.
While Ty was shooting birds, Katie was shooting craps. She celebrated her 26th birthday by going with a group of buddies to Las Vegas, where I'm quite sure they found plenty to do.
