Out Like A Lion

This has been a spectacular October. After a cool, gray September we were due for some lovely fall goodness and this month offered it up in spades.
Here we are, less than a week from Halloween and a good share of the trees in town still have their leaves. It's still mighty colorful and beautiful on the parkways. I can't remember a Halloween where we still had this many leaves. Of course, that could all change in the next four days.
Yesterday the temps dropped ten degrees between breakfast and dinner and it rained all day which I guess we need., You forget during the drought years just how much rain is actually normal. Then, when the drought ends and things fill up, it's kind of nice. For instance, the lakes and the creek have been low for most of a decade. This year the creek was full all spring and summer long. Even during the height of the ninety degree summer the creek was high. I don't ever remember that happening.
What was most amazing about the weather yesterday was the wind. It came straight out of the west and blew like a warning.
It's still windy and rainy today but nothing like last night.
I think we'll probably have a lot of snow this winter.
