The Immortal

Not me. I have a severe cold which has left me with no energy and no voice. For some reason, I always get laryngitis when I get a bad cold.
I spent the last two days huddled on my couch, reading the Immortal, by Anna Hunt. I enjoyed it. It's another take on the legend of the Wandering Jew so it wasn't terribly original, but what is these days, you know?
I liked it.
I will read more of Ms. Hunt's books.
One thing that struck me about it is that the copywrite is only 2000 yet it seemed to be written about a distant past in which the world was a very different place.
Because it was.
The story takes place in pre-9/11 New York and Rome. Not only was technology light years behind where it is now, terrorism is never mentioned.
You don't realize how ubiquitous jihad is until you read an international story and miss it on every page. It's like watching a movie or tv show from before everyone had a cell phone. Practically every scene you find yourself thinking "just call him on your cell, fer cryin out loud!"
The fellow who gave me The Immortal told me he was now reading the Bible. I need to ask him if the end times prophecies, which figure prominently in the plot, are the reason.
Which is really funny, because I'm still working my way through God's War on Terror, which is a fresh viewpoint on Biblical end times prophecies.
I still haven't read the Bible.
Maybe I'm afraid to.
