The Oscar nominations came out today.

I really don't care.

I haven't watched the Oscars since The Return of the King won everything in sight and that was the first time I'd watched since Braveheart won everything in sight.

My dislike and disdain for the Oscars goes back to my formative years when the single most important movie in history; StarWars, wasn't even nominated for best picture.

Really Academy?  EF U.

But I can't ignore the Oscars; like a spoiled rotten classmate, they're too much fun to mock.

I hope Colin Firth wins because I think he's adorable.  I haven't seen the King's Speech but I'm sure it's very good.  I think Jeff Bridges was great in True Grit but he won last year so he won't win now.  Now, if he had played Rooster Cogburn as a closeted homosexual, we'd be talking shoo in.

Natalie Portman was boring as the ballerina going bonkers in Black Swan. Show me a screen grab of her anguished face and I could NOT tell you which part of the movie it's from.  I think someone hit her foot with a hammer before each take.  That may be suffering for your art but it's not acting.  You want to see a great depiction of a young girl loosing her mind?  Watch Helena Bonham Carter's Ophelia in the 1990 version of Hamlet. Now, there's a lunatic I could root for.

I haven't seen Annette Benning's lesbian movie and I have no plans to.  I don't like chick flicks.  I have no interest at all in lickety chick flicks.

The little girl in True Grit was fabulous, but since she didn't get it on with any other girls in the movie, she won't win.

I haven't seen The Fighter yet and most likely won't until it comes out on DVD but I hope Christian Bale wins because I think he's an excellent actor.  Also, everyone I know who saw the Fighter said he was great in it.  I like Mark Walburg but he wasn't nominated, which doesn't surprise me.  Like the rest of his fans, I don't like him because of his acting (or lack of ) chops.

Plus, no matter how good he may have been in the Fighter, he needs to be punished for having anything to do with The Other Guys.

Having gotten all that off my chest, I won't give the Oscars a thought until the day after, when I will enjoy mocking George Clooney's narcissistic pomposity and  looking at photos of who wore what and went home with whom.

Say that ten times fast; It's more fun than watching the Oscars.

Lickety chick flicks. Favorite new line. Mark Walberg's best role: Date night.
