I can't believe it's been a week since I got online with my morning coffee and watched footage of the tsunami hitting Hawaii. It was anti climactic there, thank God.
Poor Japan. Being an Island nation isn't that easy; there's really nowhere to go.
I love the tropics and beaches but I've been over my tropical island fantasy ever since I read
the Day the World Ended, It wasn't even the volcanic eruption that ended my dreams of living out my days on a tropical beach; it was the evacuation of the bugs and snakes from the jungles that freaked me out the most. One giant centipede would make me sell me house. A million of them, swarming my walls and I'd probably die where I stood.
Volcanos, earth quakes, hurricanes, tsunamis...I'll take sub zero temperatures and blizzards every day of the week, thank you.
Even with our insane amount of snow (although I don't think we broke a record. Yet. It's still March, there's time) all it takes is a few +40 degree days and the stuff just evaporates. This week has been sunny and warm enough to open windows and the two foot cover on my front yard is gone.
It's GONE.
I didn't have to shovel it away, hire anyone or do a thing; it just
went away.
So yes; I'll take the snow, you can have your beaches.
Jay and Zack were in Vegas last week, watching the Mountain West basketball tournament. I was going to spend the time they were gone watching Gone With the Wind, Pride and Prejudice and maybe the Lord of the Rings but the first season of V showed up in the mail so I watched that, instead. It was good. Not great but fun enough. Scott Wolf is extremely unattractive. I thought the show missed an opportunity to create a really cool character with Fr. Jack, the priest. He's a priest
and a former soldier. (No way!!) I know a few priests who served in the military. They are not conflicted regarding their service to God and country. Lots of priests are tough old souls, even those who were never military chaplains and I hoped Fr. Jack would be like that but he's an ineffective wimp who sometimes thinks the moral choice is to do nothing. I'm not saying there aren't priests like that; there certainly are. But they don't make compelling characters in an action adventure, do they?
I also worked the jig saw puzzle I got for Christmas; it's the cover of the Beatles Revolver album. It was fun.
I'm currently reading three books, none of which is mesmerizing to me. That's why I'm reading al three. If they don't get better soon, I'll drop them all.
Business is good so I'm working a lot. It's the slowest season of the year, as always but it's not completely dead like it was at this time last year.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the tsunami isn't coming.
You know what I mean.
