Tried to go estate saling with Katie and Josie last Sunday.  There was only one sale; a very cool old house by lake Calhoun.  There wasn't any good stuff but the house was lovely, even though it hadn't had a touch of TLC since before I was born.  The kitchen cupboards had lead glass windows!  $700,000.00 would fix that house up real nice.

We did, however, find two very nice dining room chairs for Katie's place at Value Village.  They were six dollars a piece so it was a good day.

I've been working like mad lately.  Lots of furniture.  Right now, I've got two children's rockers, three round footstools, a square footstool, an end table and a tuffet in my office, which isn't nearly big enough for all this stuff.  Furniture takes time; you have to do multiple layers of paint and varnish and each layer needs 2-4 hours of dry time.  I definitely bit off more than I can chew this week.  If I don't finish some of them today, my next paycheck will be zero.

Oh well.

That's what it's like to be self employed, kids; you can work ten hour days and get nothing.  I could throw a hissy fit like those spoiled brats in Wisconsin, but no one cares about us poor artists.  Heck, we're supposed to starve; it's part of the job description.

I just finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  Compelling story.  Badly written but I don't know if I blame the author or the translation.  Either way, there's no reason why, in the middle of a murder investigation, I need to be told that the hero (who has no personality, by the way) stopped off twice while driving from one small town to another to buy a road map and a sandwich.  Seriously? Did he take a dump, too?  GET ON WITH THE STORY.

The story is pretty gross.  My dad told me he liked the movies better; I've got them on my netflix list.  Don't know if I'll bother with the other books.  I might, if I can't find anything better to read.

I'm still reading Pyschward; it's not as much fun as the title.

I'm also reading a very cool book on philosophy that my sister sent me.

I just started Emily Giffins latest.  I think I'm over her.

I want Thomas Sowell's new book and the one on the Reagan assassiniation attempt.

Jay and I are two disks into The Pacific; it's really good.

Zack spent yesterday afternoon loading Phil Collins and Eurythmics into my ipod for me.

Gotta go.
