Along with several thousand others, we all trooped down to the Basilica yesterday morning so Josie could be Confirmed as a full fledged Catholic.  No, it doesn't mean she can drink, vote or get married yet.  It means she's open  to and capable of accepting the gifts and grace of the Holy Spirit, which she will need in the years ahead.

We all do.

The Bishop (only Bishops can perform this particular sacrament) gave a really good sermon.  His emphasis was on how much God loves you.  This is a fact that is forgotten too often by soft Catholics (and other Christians) every day.  It's very easy to feel put upon and complain about the rules of the Church; why do we have to go to Mass every Sunday, even if we went on another day?  Why do I have to wait until I'm married...?  It's the twentieth (or 21st) century, do you really think God cares if we...?

Blah, blah, blah...

Thousands of years of human history should have taught us that the laws handed down to Moses were all for our own good but over and over and OVER we all seem to think that we know best.

That pretty much explains the state of the world, doesn't it?

So Josie is now confirmed and after the ceremony, Jay took Gramma, Grampa, me, Katie and Josie to brunch at Keys, a family run restaurant that's legendary for their breakfasts.

We had a great time.

We were on our way home before 2:00.  My folks were last seen wandering around down town like tourists from the farm.  When Katie spotted them from the car, she immediately pulled out her phone and called them.  I love cells phones for this very reason.

Turns out they hadn't lost their car (this is not unprecedented; they love to tell the story of the  time they wandered for hours in the Costco parking lot looking for the van before finally remembering they had come in  the Audi.  Then, they couldn't leave for another twenty minutes because that's how long it took them to stop laughing and believe me; you don't want my dad behind the wheel while he's laughing.)  Yesterday, they had only gone to find change to pay for the parking.

Josie went to Katie's house to help paint and I came home and went to work on the four new footstools and tuffets I've got in my office.

The girls came back in time to help me make NNO pasta (Emeril's new New Orleans cookbook) for dinner and the lovely Mr. Curry joined us but we still could only eat half of it.  So now I have a tupperware full of the most delicious past dish on earth in the fridge but not chocolate.

It's Sunday.  I need some cocoa.
