Now That's a Good Weekend

Osama Bin Laden is dead.
Navy Seals shot him in the head even as he cowered behind a woman he used as a human shield. They took photos and DNA samples then dumped his sorry carcass in the ocean so his followers would have no shrine at which to worship him.
All that death and gore and grief and terror so that the guy could go to paradise and live like Hugh Hefner.
I'm glad he's dead.
There were a few folks on the radio this morning, one saying it was classless to rejoice in the death of a fellow human, to which my wise son said "The death of evil is always a good thing."
A woman asked Dennis Prager if it was okay to be happy for the death of a fellow human and he replied "why on earth shouldn't we be happy that he's dead?"
Ding Dong the Witch is Dead has been running through my head all day. Be proud, Obama! You scored a big one for the good guys!!
This came at the end of a really good weekend.
Friday, the wedding of Prince William and Catherine took place. I care not at all but Jay got up early enough to see them kiss on the balcony in real time. He had planned on getting up early enough to see more of it but at least he caught the kiss. He loves that stuff. Such a romantic.
Not me. I slept in.
Saturday I spent the afternoon estate saling with my daughter and my mom. It was actually a pretty good day; Katie bought a bed and an end table. They're still in the back of my mini van. Hopefully she'll remember to come and get them before too long.
Mom bought a big hardcover James Herriot anthology, which she gave to Zack, who is now reading everything he can get his hands on. I bought only an old copy of the Reader's Digest from April 1966. It was in really good shape. I told my Dad when I dropped Mom off at home that I got an article of his from '66 about airplanes and without missing a beat he told me the proper title was Brave Men in Fragile Planes.
We did get lost out near Lake Minnetonka for a little while. It was sort of exciting. Unfortunately, the sale we were trying to find turned out to not be worth the trouble but you never know till you get there. After we dropped my Mom off at home, Jay called to tell me that we had to leave for a party in a half an hour.
I knew we had a birthday dinner to go to, I just didn't realize that we are now in our eighties and dinner starts at 5:30.
We did make it to the party on time and our host explained that the early start was to accommodate the philosophy Eat Slowly and Pack Well.
We ate slowly and I'm still well packed two days later.
The food was spectacular. The birthday boy cooked the dinner and every course was delicious. We started with tomato garlic soup, moved on to stuffed artichokes and then two different kinds of stuffed filo. It was all vegetarian and all perfectly delicious.
The company was very entertaining as well. There were twelve of us and I think we managed to polish off nearly a dozen bottles of wine. I heard a lot of interesting things and several made me laugh.
The cake was a work of art; four layers of chocolate and coconut frosting. I ate a huge piece even though I knew that eating that much chocolate at 9:00 (it's a good thing we started so early or we'd still be eating now!) would keep me awake but it was worth it.
We slept in on Sunday.
Mass at Basilica and we all celebrated John Paul II's beatification. John Paul the Great.
Then Jay, Josie and I went to Kramarczuk's for brunch. Good doesn't begin to describe the eggs benedict, home made sausages and belgian waffles hot off the grill. Ate so much I didn't even look at the pastry table.
Jay watched a rerun of the entire royal wedding.
Then we heard the news that our guys got Osama.
A prince's wedding, a friend's birthday, a soon to be Saint and a fiend's death.
And chocolate cake, to boot.
What more could anyone want?
