Art Show!

My sister had a one day show yesterday at the Picket Fence in Edina. She brought about a half dozen of the portraits she's been doing since last year. They range in size from 16X20inches to 3X5 feet. They are really cool.
What Katie has done, inspired by Lady Gaga, of all people, is to take portraiture and make it extremely contemporary. She uses photos, renders them in deceptively simple black and white likenesses and infuses them with intoxicating shots of pure color.
I'm telling you, they're really cool.
The show was a smash hit.
I was there for several hours and the place was packed all day. By the time I left, with a few hours to go till closing, she had lined up four new commissions.
Not bad for a day's work.
It was a strange day, outside the shop. It poured rain all morning, then there was a two hour gap in storms mid afternoon with sunshine and promise, only to be wrecked by the massive black wall approaching us from the west. Poured rain and thundered at dinner time. During the sunny hours, I dropped Josie and her bike at work, telling her to bike home later.
Later, as lightning shook my house, I called her and told her I'd pick her up when she was done.
By the time she finished, the sun was back out and she rode to Meg's.
Pretty sure it was raining again by the time we watched a disk of Friend's before bed.
It's been that sort of June.
