Wet Weekend

It was way too good to last'; June has turned gray and damp just like it always does.

Still, it's been the best month of this wet, dank spring.

Yesterday, my daughter and I went to Home Depot to pick up a couple of gallons of paint for her  apartment.  One of the prerequisites for moving in was that she be allowed to paint.  It's a great space; old, with built ins and crown moulding, hard wood floors, big windows, a brick fireplace and high ceilings but the woodwork had been finished in a greenish pickling technique that was popular thirty years ago and the walls were painted a very pale green.  The woodwork was the real abomination.  Katie's been painting it white since she moved in.

The white trim even made the green walls look a thousand times better but it didn't fit with Katie's overall decorating plan.

She had chosen two shades of blue (a soft, muted blue; very pretty).  The paler color is for the living room which has a western exposure and lots of large windows, so gets sunlight all day long.  The pale blue made the room feel like a breath of fresh air.

The dining room, right off the living room, is like dining rooms in all layouts from that era; between the front room and kitchen, two swinging doors, ones leading to the kitchen the other to the bath and bedrooms.  Two big windows and corner built ins.  A large, contemporary chandelier in the middle.  Katie's been collecting dining room chairs and Grandma gave her a table, but she hasn't picked up the table yet, so painting was easy.  We turned the dining room a shade of blue three shades darker than the living room; it's dramatic and handsome.

We picked up Josie from the house she slept over at, after staying up way too late watching the Midnight showing of Sixteen Candles at the Uptown.

Considering she'd had no sleep, Josie was a trooper, rolling walls faster than I could edge them.

We got a first coat on both rooms and Katie finished the trim on the big suite of windows in the front before we had to knock off and get ready for the bridal shower Katie and I were attending later.

To entertain ourselves while we painted, we watched Tangled, High School Musical 3 and the first half hour of Mama Mia.

Then we cleaned everything up and put the furniture back.

My feet ached the rest of the day.

But the shower was fun.

Oh, it was Jay's birthday, too.

We had no cake.
