Growing up, I always knew that in the year 2000, I'd turn 40.  That seemed a really old age but I didn't worry about it because 2000 was about a million years in the future.

Now, of course time flies by so fast that days or even weeks go by and I don't know what happens to them.  I can't believe I didn't write about last weekend, for instance.

It started last Friday night, when Jay and I went to see Hootie play football.  St. Thomas Academy has one of the most beautiful stadiums in sports in the metro area.  Seriously, Target field is the only place to give STA a run for their money; the setting is pastoral, the views magnificent and the varsity game starts as the sun is setting so the entire first half of the game was played under a technicolor sky.

We got there about ten minutes before kickoff and were able to nab great seats on the fifty yard line.  We were surprised that there weren't more fans there, but ten minutes into the game the place was packed to the metaphorical rafters.

In STA's very first series, Hootie ran for fifty yards.  He seemed to gain a first down every time he got his hands on the ball and he scored one touchdown.  The opponent, Tartan, wasn't very good.  STA scored on almost every possession.  By the end of the first half, STA was up 42-0 and Hootie had rushed for 144 yards.

Jay and I left after the half time show, figuring (correctly) that Hootie and the rest of the starters would sit out the second half.  The final score of the game was 48-0.  Sometimes you just can't help scoring again.

In addition to me and Jay, Hootie's parents and several siblings were in attendance, as well as Andy, Vi and their kids, Katie, Mike and their kids.  Joe was texting Bill (who was out of town) a play by play and Andy was texting JP (who was back home in LA) a play by play.

Where was Woody?

That's what I'd like to know.

Tonight is STA homecoming and it should be a fun game!

Saturday, Hootie's little sister Martha ran in the Milaca Mega Meet, where dozens of schools and several of the top ranked runners in the state were competing.

Martha beat them all, winning it with a personal best of 14:47.  She's taken nearly a minute off her time in the last two weeks!

Monday, Zack and I went to Savers and I bought him his birthday present; an outfit to wear to Vegas for Ellie and Mike's wedding.  He found a Hugo Boss suit that fits him like it was made for him, a tie to go with the suit, a pair of black, nicely broken in cowboy boots that also fit like they were made for him and just for fun; a black stetson.  Total bill; $47.  With the boots and the hat on, he looks like he's nine feet tall.

We had his dinner last night and it was fun.  Zack wanted spaghetti and burnt almond cake.  His sisters ganged up on him and convinced him to change the cake order to chocolate cherry cake.  I was good either way but Jay was disappointed; burnt almond is his favorite.

After dinner, Zack and I watched The Watchmen, which I'd never seen.  I read the comic book (graphic novel for those who are too insecure to admit they love comic books) years ago and I liked it but I didn't remember any of the details.  I liked the movie but it was definitely made for fans of the book, not uninterested bystanders.  It was very stylized, very comic booky and strange. Zack and I howled through the love scenes, which totally pandered to the fanboy demographic but I have to admit, several times during the show, I caught myself wondering if that was really Billy Crudup's junk.

Probably not.  It was blue, after all.

I awoke this morning to four times the email I usually get. Apparently in the night, we were hacked and someone sent my entire address book links that I can only assume were nasty.

Who clicks on a link that ends in 'amsterdam.com'?  Seriously, what did you think you'd find?

I sent Thank yous out to all my friends and acquaintances who recognized the hack right away.  We would never send out such a thing.

I'm sure if I ever run for public office, that spam will show up to haunt me.

I can hardly wait.
